The Poly Studio P-15, A Better Normal
By Andrew Mair and Bill Knauf
About a year ago, we began hearing about a new virus that was making its way across our world. In a matter of months, much of what we do at work and home metamorphosed into something many called “our new normal.”
This new way of working has brought challenges.
Entire families moved all their activities to the home office. With everyone in the house clamoring for space, work locations have become shared and often noisy and distracting.
Cameras designed for office spaces often show more workspace than desired. Not ideal if you are fighting to keep the clutter from kid’s homework or your spouse’s job at bay, not to mention the noise from hungry kids, family pets, or that unexpected lawnmower outside.
Our company, Poly, creates beautifully designed and engineered audio and video products that let you be seen and heard with incredible clarity wherever you work. However, much of our video device development previously focused around the office, leaving our headset and personal audio line to comprise most of our personal device platform.
On February 2nd, 2021, Poly announced the Poly Studio P-series, a new line of products and services designed specifically for this new home and hybrid working era. The P-Series personal collaboration devices are designed with premium optics, sensors, and advanced audio technology that make people like us (geeks) have little fireworks explode in parts of our soul.
The Studio P series initially consists of 3 products, the P-5, a beautifully designed webcam embedded with high-quality microphones, available soon. The P-21, a personal meeting display with camera and audio technology built right in, is also available soon.
The device we will discuss today, the Poly studio P-15, is a personal video bar unlike anything else designed for working from home.
It has an embedded 4k camera with a field of view — 90° or less, optimized for only one or two people.
To keep the person consistently in the center of the shot, it has automatic camera framing. The high-performance image sensor ensures you look your absolute best. The large sensor gives premium low-light performance and delivers a consistent image across the entire field of view.
The advanced microphone array has two unique features for noisy environments. NoiseblockAI removes unwanted sounds while allowing speech to come through. Acoustic Fence blocks off the entire sound from unwanted areas like outside your window or another room — no more distractions from kids or wayward lawnmowers ruining your call.
The Poly P-15 is the perfect device when utilizing the various video platforms you may encounter and is certified for Zoom and Teams.
The Poly Studio P-15, and the other devices in the series, can be managed and controlled via Poly Lens, giving companies remote provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting from a single pane of glass.
The management platform is one of the best things about the Poly P-Series. Poly Lens represents how Poly will support new styles of working, it is cloud-based, so it scales with you, maintaining security without all that heavy traditional IT overhead. The Poly Lens platform does not only manage the new P-Series of products but can support your entire collaboration portfolio.

Along with the cloud platform, Poly is providing a management application for the individual user called Poly Lens Desktop:
It is important to mention that we are both Sales Engineers for Poly. But just because we work for the company does not mean that the P-15 and the accompanying Poly Lens application and services are any less than what we describe here.
The Studio P-15 is designed for the remote worker or connected executive and anyone else who needs a high-quality experience from their home office. And the ability to manage and maintain the device through the cloud makes it the perfect device to outfit an individual in the home or office work environment.
The Poly Studio P-Series, and specifically the P-15, are devices designed for our new day-to-day, with an exception, one might say that the experience provided by the P-15 is a “better normal.”
