Logitech’s TAP controller, a mainstay in modern meeting rooms, primarily serves as a touch interface for room systems but lacks built-in room control features. However, this capability gap has been effectively bridged through integrations with third-party control systems developed by companies like Extron and QSC. These systems enhance the functionality of the Logitech TAP when connected to a certified Windows-based room computer.

Integration Mechanism

The third-party control systems from Extron and QSC are designed to interface seamlessly with the Windows-based room computer. This setup allows for centralizing room controls, which are then accessible directly from the Logitech TAP controller. This integration ensures that users can manage the room environment — such as lighting, audio, and visual equipment — directly from the TAP’s user-friendly interface.

Compatibility and Support

It is important to note that these integrations are compatible only with the “classic” USB-based Logitech TAP controller. They are not applicable to the newer network-based TAP IP controller.

Note: As of an update on October 17, 2023, Extron has expanded its support to include CollabOS devices and acknowledged support for TAP IP. The latest Extron Zoom control integration now supports Zoom Room PC and various CollabOS devices, including models like RB, RBm, Huddle, and RoomMate, across both TAP and TAP IP variants. This is platform specific to Zoom.

Technical and Support Resources

For those interested in implementing these integrations, the complexity largely resides on the side of the control system rather than with the Logitech hardware. As such, prospective users are encouraged to consult directly with representatives from Extron or QSC for detailed guidance and support. Both companies provide comprehensive resources and support for their respective systems:

These resources are invaluable for IT managers and system integrators looking to enhance their meeting room systems with advanced control capabilities facilitated through the Logitech TAP.

Conclusion

Integrating third-party control systems with Logitech TAP presents a robust solution for enhancing room control functionalities in a user-friendly manner. By leveraging these technologies, organizations can ensure a seamless and integrated experience in their meeting environments, making the most of their technological investments.
